Bulls snap losing skid with come-from-behind victory over West Michigan, 7-6
The Wooster Bulls came out and put together a statement on the ice on Sunday, Jan. 4.
They played host to the West Michigan Sentinels, an eight-win team that was one of the top sides in the Western Division, and came away with a 7-6 victory. It wasn't all smooth sailing, though, as the Bulls had to battle back from a 6-5 scoreline, trailing into the third period of play to pull off the win.
The win for the Bulls comes in as just the team's third on the season, but showcases a trend in the right direction as the year approaches it's backhalf.
Wooster opened the scoring at 19:22 in the first, just 40 seconds into the game, when captain Will Holden made it 1–0. West Michigan answered on the power play a few minutes later at 13:00 with Tyler Blackburn tying things up, turning the period into a back-and-forth.
The Bulls were able to get back in front with a 2-1 edge, but yet again allowed another in minutes later to make it 2-2. The Sentinels closed out the period strong, securing two more goals while the Bulls were only able to snag one, giving the away side a 4-3 edge heading into the second period.
Early in the second, Michael Moreira tied it 4–4 for Wooster, but West Michigan answered again. Goals from Perry Shiring and Parker Gee pushed the Sentinels ahead 6–4 before Anthony Caserta pulled Wooster back within one late in the frame.
In the third, the Bulls had work to do to somehow, someway take down one of the best teams in the league.
Moreira struck again at 15:29 to even it 6–6. Then, midway through the period, Remington Reynolds buried a power-play goal at 11:15, which ended up being the game-winner, as the Bulls completed the comeback for a 7–6 win.
Reynolds was given the first star, finishing the game with two goals, while Moreira's two goals were enough to give him the second star. The third and final star was handed to the captain as he netted the game's opening goal and added on two assists.
All in all, it was the definition of a team performance for the Bulls at a time they certainly needed some confidence.
Just the night before, the Bulls had been dominated by the Sentinels, 7-2.
Sunday's win marked the first for the Bulls' new head coach, Jordan Roemer, who was promoted from assistant coach just a short few weeks ago. His time as head coach has led the Bulls to a 1-3 record.
Next up, the team prepares to travel on the road to Valencia, Pa., for a two-game stand against the Iron City Forge. The two sides will clash on Saturday, Jan. 10, at 8:15 p.m. EST and Sunday, Jan. 11, at 12:15 p.m. EST. The series will determine who takes the No. 4 spot, and potentially No. 3, in the standings as the season quickly approaches its conclusion.
