Bulls Close Final Homestand With Series Split vs. Buffalo
The Wooster Bulls came to play from the Alice Noble Ice Arena.
On Saturday, Feb. 14, and Sunday, Feb. 15, the Bulls concluded their games played in Wooster for the 2025-26 campaign in a series against the Buffalo Tempest. They were able to defend the home ice on Saturday, winning 5-2, and on Sunday, fell in the dying embers, 10-7, in a shootout.
The first game of the series was an exciting one, with the Bulls showcasing an incredible knack for offensive pressure and lockdown defense.
They scored the game's first three goals, heading into the first period intermission up 3-0. Forward Michael Moreira was the star, netting two goals, with defender Kenneth Whaley Jr. snagging the other.
In the second period, both teams exchanged goals to start, before the Bulls tacked on another, moving up to a 5-1 advantage through two. In the final period, they maintained heavy-hitting and the lead, while getting the Tempest to lose their cool, drawing five total penalties.
They closed out the game with a 5-2 win.
The game's three stars went to Moreira, who finished with two goals; goaltender Jack Hudec, who gave up just two goals and made 56 saves; and defender Brendan Piwinski, who was a key piece to the team's incredible defense, while also dropping Buffalo's Kyle Wilkins in a fight.
Heading into Sunday's game, the Bulls looked to keep momentum and confidence high.
They started off strong, leading 4-1 heading into the first period break.
However, the Tempest bounced back and outscored the Bulls in the second, bringing the scoreline closer. The Bulls led 6-5 as the final 20 minutes of action rolled on.
The third period was incredible, as both teams exchanged a few goals, with the game sitting level at seven with under four minutes remaining. On a fast break towards the Bulls' side of the ice, great stick work and a perfect shot slid into the back of the net, with the Tempest snagging a lead, 8-7. After that, they tacked on two more late goals to solidify a 10-7 win on the road.
Tempest forward Michael Houlihan snagged the first star, as he scored an eye-popping five goals, while the Bulls were given the last two. Moreira yet again scored two goals, as goaltender Luke Bell made 43 saves.
The results of the weekend series move the Bulls to a record of 12-9-0-1 on the year, while the Tempest sits just a step above in the division standings at a mark of 14-7-0-1.
The Bulls' final game of the season will be in just under two weeks, on Saturday, Feb. 28, against the Thousand Island Raiders. The sides will go toe-to-toe at 7:30 p.m. EST from Cerow Recreation Park.
